Château de Versailles

Yesterday I spent the day at the beautiful Château de Versailles just 30 minutes outside of Paris. The day called for rain, but that didn’t stop me from dressing up for the occasion. I’ve always dreamed of visiting the palace so a little rain wasn’t going to take away from my excitement. But by late afternoon when I was walking around I actually felt a little hot and had the chance to take off my coat and feel the cool breeze in the gardens. I’m already itching to go back. Later today I will share some stories and more images from my trip. Now, I’m off to visit the Catacombs for a spooky midday adventure.

Unpacked and Ready to Roam

Je suis à Paris! Finalement! I am just now starting to explore it before my school program begins in a week and I couldn’t feel more at home (despite the fact that I’m actually almost 5,500 miles away from my real home). Everyone here wears black. Check number one. The buildings are intricate and very gothic looking. Check two. There are over a hundred museums in the city. Check three. And there is bread everywhere. Check four. I’ve been giddy every time I ride the subway, because it reminds me of New York City, just a much cleaner and more efficient version. Check five.

My day was filled with orientation meetings with my program and all the students that will be in it with me. We had free time so I roamed around and visited Notre Dame and the neighborhood, Le Marais, as well as of course going to spot the infamous Eiffel Tower (it did not disappoint). I tested out a few cafés and learned that well-done burgers in France are actually nearly dripping with blood on the bottom. It is safe to say lunch was not all too appetizing for me however it looked rather nice. The crème brûlée was rather tasty, though.

After a day of running around our group all went on a tour of the Seine River via boat and had a killer view of the City of Lights in the evening. Is it tomorrow yet? Because I’m so excited to see what it will have in store.

Au revoir!

Flights, Delays, Cancellations… Oh My!

This just in: traveling to Europe is a nightmare. I have been traveling since 9 in the morning on Sunday and am still trying to get to my destination at almost 6 at night today, Monday. My layover flight was cancelled in Dallas and then the next flight wasn’t until four hours later, but then that flight was delayed another four hours. I missed my connection in London that I was never meant to have in the first place and now I’m sitting in Heathrow waiting for my second attempt out of here to Paris. In the end it will all of course be worth it, but right now I feel like I’m in traveler’s hell. On the plus side this airport is insanely amazing and has great window shopping.

Time to say goodbye before I run out of wifi usage. See you soon Paris!

Chihuly In The Desert

Today my mother and I traveled deep into the desert aka thirty minutes from our home since everything is in the desert out here. We visited the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden to get our tourist cravings satisfied via the wonderful Chihuly Exhibition. Chihuly is this killer artist who makes blown glass sculptures. I’ve seen his work over the years in random places I’ve traveled to and when I heard he was showing pieces here I had to visit.

It’s amazing to see them installed next to cacti and other plants. I would be so stressed out if I had to put that together. One, I would just break everything by touching it somehow and two, I would fall into a Saguaro cactus — no doubt about it.

I will say I was kind of saddened (don’t know what else I expected) by the plants at the garden. Perhaps it’s because I’m from Arizona and drive by these kinds of plants every day on the highway, but I thought there would at least be some flowers or something that wasn’t light green/tan in color. My mother is trying to convince me it’s just the time of year, but the title of the place was straight forward to me: it wasn’t a botanical garden in the desert it was indeed a desert botanical garden. Nothing like the beautiful Brooklyn Botanical Garden in NYC with it’s extensive collection of roses.

All of that aside it was such a beautiful day here in Arizona and I can’t believe I’m so lucky to only have to wear a light, long sleeve tee and pants in the middle of the winter. I guess that’s one huge thing to be grateful for here. I never really share images on here that reference Arizona life, but I think I will appreciate them when I’m freezing to death in rainy Paris the next few months. So thank you for taking me out today mom — I will remember it for months to come!

I’m wearing Prada sunglasses, J.Crew top and necklace, Madwell jeans, BP shoes, Kate Spade bag and assorted bracelets from J.Crew and Kate Spade.

Day By Day

What a strange week it has been. One day I’m playing tennis, the next I’m in the hospital and the next I’m at a photo shoot. The hospital was a pretty weird experience. I’ve never really been in one for myself before, let alone be given morphine and hooked up to an IV. However I now feel much better, which brings me to today. I had a fun, quick little photo shoot for a local magazine and it ended up being with one if my best guy friends. Always a nice surprise to work with someone you not only get along with, but enjoy their presence as well. I think I jumped around like a giddy girl for at least five whole minutes. After that I met my friend Genevieve for a quick little chit chat on her oh so comfy bed. She decorated her walls with road maps and I just can’t get enough of them. Not a bad way to end the past few struggle filled days!

Wall Street Wandering

This past trip to the city I stayed on Wall Street right in the Financial District, which is starting to become one of my favorite areas of Manhattan. I have since been scouring the internet looking for possible apartments for my big move there next year. I love the area because it is a mix between all of the character filled historic buildings and the new more modern style of architecture as well. I spent my last day in the city walking around admiring the neighborhood since it’s a nice and quiet on Sundays due to the lack of men wearing suits working down there on the weekend. Perfect way to end the trip if you ask me.

I’m wearing a J.Crew sweater and earmuffs, Madewell Coat, Topshop jacket, Kate Spade bag, and an Alex and Ani bracelet.

Morning At The Museum

I woke up nice and semi-early this morning to go to The Met (as I always do when in the city) and walked around for a few hours taking in the beautiful art. I think I have officially decided it is my favorite place in the city. It’s one place I actually enjoy being alone, because I’m able to be introspective and not be interrupted by the loud blares of sirens or people on the street. Instead I’m greeted with Monet, Manet, and many more to make my experience that much more engaging and marvelous to the eye.

I’m wearing a Madewell coat and skirt, Zara sweater, J.Crew necklace, and Kate Spade purse.

The Golden Hour

Today was such an incredible day — one I will surely remember for many days to come. It started out with a smile and it hasn’t gone away since.
Happiness is such a great feeling, isn’t it?

Empire State

I am back in New York City for a quick winter break trip and boy does it feel marvelous. It is rather chilly compared to the weather in Arizona right now, but that is a fair trade I would say. As soon as I flew in I met up with my friend Hanna for some dinner and gelato at Eataly. It’s right next to the Flatiron Building, which has the most marvelous view of the Empire State Building just a few blocks north. It always looks so magical all lit up at night. Today isn’t over yet and I’m already looking forward to tomorrow’s adventures!
