Fashion Food For Thought

I am a firm believer in the idea that to feel your best, you must also look your best. You may be thinking, “How shallow of her,” but let me explain. Whenever you try on clothing in a store you tend to base how you feel about the clothing off of how you look. Not to say I’m promoting being super fancy and done up at all times (I myself wear minimal makeup everyday), I’m simply stating that you feel more confident when you look and present yourself in the best possible light. This “presentation of confidence” if you will, is something I have always made sure to enforce during finals season. Yes you’re exhausted, frustrated, and stressed out knowing your grades are all possibly riding on a few exams — the last thing on your mind is what you’re going to wear in the morning; sweatpants are probably most preferable. But wouldn’t you rather go into a test feeling awesome and fresh? Aka you didn’t just roll out of bed and show up. That is what I made sure to do today for my first final, my French oral exam. Not only did I want to look my best, I wanted to play the part.

As many fashionistas and all people alike may know, the French love wearing the color black — it’s kind of their “thing”. With that in mind I decided to channel one of my favorite Actresses, Audrey Hepburn, in her role in the 1957 movie, Funny Face. If you have not seen it I highly recommend it — so chic; as are all Hepburn movies. There is a particular scene though where Audrey’s character is seen wearing this sleek, mod, all black number, in which she just dances her heart out. I decided that if I could replicate that look I too could be Parisian and therefore conquer my French exam today. As pure outfit planning (and hours of studying) would have it, I passed with flying colors. Obviously working hard and studying got me the grade, but I truly believe that my outfit had a large influence on my confidence. And that my friends, is what I love not just about fashion, but clothing in general — you can feel unstoppable when wearing the perfect outfit. So if you’re up for the ten extra minutes to plan an outfit the night before your big exams, I recommend you give it a try and see how you feel right before the exam — it can’t hurt to try! As for me it would appear that although one test is done, I still have seven to go. Let the studying and outfit picking begin!

Yours Truly,
Lomax

Oh, how I LOVE Funny Face! Audrey is one classy, graceful, and yet simple, lady :) I’m an Arizona girl as well. That snow is killer! Beautiful, but I don’t think I could endure it for more than a weekend!
