So I about died this weekend. And yes I’m going to brag about it, because there is no way not to. My absolute favorite DJ/producer is Joel Zimmerman also known as Deadmau5 (pronounced deadmouse) and I was lucky enough to attend a show of his last Sunday on the fourth of July. It was an exclusive show at a club called Lilypond out in the Hamptons with a minimal amount of people. I of course am not truly a part of that crowd, but I get to play along on the weekends at least so I was very fortunate! I was eating at my favorite restaurant, Phillipe Chow, and as I gazed across the room I noticed Joel. Being a massive fan I definitely know what he really looks like while most just recognize him by his mau5 (mouse) head.
I thought I was going to have a heart attack, but that was only the start. Once I was in the club and the madness had begun I worked my way to the front of the stage with some friends to try to dance by him. We got right on stage and danced in front of him all night long. I have never had such an experience in my life, I will remember that night forever. My favorite song of his called Strobe was absolutely ridiculous to hear in person as he played. I danced my life away. After hours of Deadmau5 my life was pretty much complete, and then it happened, I met Joel!
When everyone started to exit the club I walked right by Joel and then instantly knew I had to go up to him because I would never get the chance again. So my 5’11 self in 5” inch heels walked up to the skinny little Joel Zimmerman and said hello. I was kind of shocked when he happily said hello back. He instantly started talking about how I was so tall and asked why New York had so many tall girls, all I could really say was that it was because we were models. So then the sarcasm started flying back and forth about him being short and that I apologized for my massive heels. Now in my head this entire time I was dying to take a picture with him but I didn’t want to bother him because I already felt lucky enough to be talking to him. But yet again I figured it would never happen again so I went ahead and asked and he gladly obliged, only after telling me that my long arms could take the picture for us and we wouldn’t even need another person to do the job. I smiled for days after this happened.
A lot of my best friends are really into Deadmau5 so I called them instantly and starting freaking out to them. Then I had to get on facebook and share with the world what happened. Yes, I would consider this bragging in a sense, but at the same time he’s someone I’ve always wanted to see perform let alone actually have a conversation with. But yes, that was my fabulous fourth of July evening that I shall never forget thanks to the lovely Mr. Zimmerman.
Here are some pictures from the evening
