Wizardly Wednesday

The Harry Potter books are marvelously written which is convenient because that allows them to offer up the best quotes. Here a few of my favorite quotes from the seven books, try and see if you can remember who said what in which book!

“Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love.”

“I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed – or worse, expelled. Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to bed.”

“How long have you been ‘Big D’ then?” said Harry.
“Shut it,” snarled Dudley, turning away again.
“Cool name,” said Harry, grinning, “but you’ll always be Ickle Diddykins to me.”
“Shut your face.”
“You don’t tell her [Aunt Petunia] to shut her face. What about ‘popkin’ and ‘Dinky Diddydums,’ can I use them then?”

“Well, it’s just that you seem to be labouring under the delusion that I am going to – what is the phrase? – come quietly. I am afraid I am not going to come quitely at all, Cornelius.”

“NEVER-INSULT-ALBUS-DUMBLEDORE-IN-FRONT-OF-ME!”

“There you go, Harry,” Ron shouted over the noise. “You weren’t being thick after all – you were showing moral fiber!”

“Make way for the heir of Slytherin, seriously evil wizard coming through…”

“Thing was they bit off a bit more than theycould chew with Gran. Little old witch living alone, they probably thought they didn’t need to send anyone particularly powerful. Anyway,” Neville laughed, “Dawlish is still in St. Mungo’s and Gran’s on the run.”

“Longbottom, if brains were gold, you’d be poorer than Weasley, and that’s saying something.”

“Ah, shut up, Dursley, yeh great prune.”

“Alas! Ear wax!”

“Proud?” said Harry. “Are you crazy? All those times I could’ve died, and I didn’t manage it? They’ll be furious….”

“Half an inch of skin and sinew holding my neck on, Harry! Most people would think that’s good as beheaded, but oh, no, it’s not enough for Sir Properly Decapitated-Podmore.”

“This is night, Diddykins. That’s what we call it when it goes all dark like this.”

“Daddy, look—one of the gnomes actually bit me!”

“Tell me one last thing,” said Harry. “Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?”
“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

“He [Dumbledore] will only be gone from the school when none are loyal to him.”

“Okay, who wants to see me take off Snivelly’s pants?”

“You’re a prefect? Oh Ronnie! That’s everyone in the family!” [Molly Weasley]
“What are Fred and I? Next door neighbours?”

“Harry–you’re a great wizard, you know.”
“I’m not as good as you,” said Harry, very embarrassed, as she let him go.
“Me!” said Hermione. “Books! And cleverness! There are more important things–friendship and bravery and–oh Harry–be careful!”

“Percy wouldn’t recognize a joke if it danced naked in front of him wearing Dobby’s tea cozy.”

“Azkaban – the wizard’s prison, Goyle. Honestly, if you were any slower, you’d be going backwards.”

“Fear of a name increases fear of a thing itself.”

“We’ll be there, Harry,” said Ron.
“What?”
“At your aunt and uncle’s house. And then we’ll go with you, wherever you’re going.”

“Severus…please…”

“I love you, Hermione.”

“But I got this far, didn’t I?” he [Draco] said slowly. “They thought I’d die in the attempt, but I’m here… and you’re in my power…. I’m the one with the wand…. You’re at my mercy….”

“Just because you’ve got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn’t mean we all have.”

“I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me… Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.”

“That which Voldemort does not value, he takes no trouble to comprehend. Of house-elves and children’s tales, of love, loyalty, and innocence, Voldemort knows and understands nothing. Nothing. That they all have a power beyond his own, a power beyond the reach of any magic, is a truth he has never grasped.”

For all you Harry Potter fans out there, what are some of your favorite quotes? And for that matter, which book is your favorite?

Yours Truly,
Lomax

Wait no, not borderline, completely obsessed. haha well anyway I LOVED all the quotes, those are definitely some of my favorites too. I remember reading them but I would never be able to pick them out of the books like you did haha so good job. My favorite is the one where Fred and George ask if they’re neighbors hahhhahhaha
