Hittin’ Up The Gym

I am becoming more and more increasingly happy with how my personal training and dieting is going. A lot of you have been commenting and emailing me asking if I planned on sharing what I do to tone up and diet. I wasn’t really planning on it since I’m not an expert but I decided there is no harm in sharing what I am doing (seeing as it is working really well).

As far as exercising goes I work out at least six out of the seven days in the week. A lot of you probably are saying you don’t have enough time for that but it really only takes thirty minutes or less per day with what I am recommending. If you are looking to tone your body and get lean muscle then you definitely will need to keep your heart rate up with everything you are doing. When lifting weights don’t do one set of reps at a time and then wait a minute until you do your next set. You should have a plan for what part of your body you are working at that day (either legs, arms, or biceps/back) and then move from station to station accordingly. I usually have four to six “stations” per day and after I finish one I move quickly to the next. Once I finish each station I take about thirty seconds to drink water and break, and then I’m off to repeating everything I just did. I usually do the circuit about four times in one session, and I always finish the day with an ab workout. I would recommend simple sit ups because though people think they don’t help, they really do if you do them properly. I used to always curl my neck in when I did them but my trainer basically yelled at me saying that would get me nothing. So what I do is put my arms behind my head and squeeze them in towards my chest as I lift up, making sure to keep my head facing the ceiling. It sounds too simple but I promise it will make a drastic change in your stomach.

For cardio my trainer has me doing interval training which essentially is shocking my body and increases the amount of fat that I lose. On off days when I’m not doing weight training I have to work out first thing in the morning before eating breakfast. All I do is walk on the treadmill for twenty minutes! That’s all the work out requires. But of course it’s a bit trickier than that. I have to walk at a pace of at least a three while on full incline. I do that for three minutes and then get a one minute break where I still am on full incline but I get to walk on the lowest level the treadmill offers. I still do other forms of exercise like tennis, hot yoga, and swimming; just for fun I suppose, everything helps!

As far as dieting goes I can sometimes be hard on myself but generally it’s not too difficult to eat the way I do. I used to diet for modeling by eating no carbs or sugar. I mean I didn’t even want to eat yogurt because of the sugar in it. But at the end of the day you still need those two things so I’ve learned to adjust how I eat into a healthier way that is more long lasting. When I do eat carbs they’re usually a small part of my meal, and generally whole grain or wheat. I stay away from any french fries, pizza, pasta, etc. I have wheat tortillas that I make wraps with, or sometimes I splurge and have a whole grain waffle for breakfast. I try not to eat carbs at dinner time, I usually only want to have them at the beginning of the day because it for whatever reason makes me feel better. The rest of my diet consists of a lot of fruits and vegetables like lettuce, green beans, cucumbers, apples, bananas, strawberries, and black olives. Unfortunately I’m a rather picky eater so it can be tough with only a limited amount of food to eat. After working out with weights I usually try to get protein in my body, usually either canned tuna with a tad bit of light mayo, or maybe shrimp or turkey. It helps me feel less sore the next day and is great for my body.

The ultimate piece of advice I feel I could give is to just drink a lot of water. I don’t even understand fully why you have to drink a ton of water but it’s just so great for your body and it even helps make your skin glow and look amazing! I seem to lose weight a lot faster when I drink more water. I consume so much sometimes that I feel like I could jump around and hear the water sloshing back and forth inside of me; gross yet productive!

I hope this answered some of your questions; I tried to go into some detail without over doing it. I am definitely no nutritionist or personal trainer so I can really only go off what seems to be working for me.

At the end of the day I always feel great now because I know that I accomplished something that not only makes me look better but helps me become a healthier person in the long run. So for those of you that need help getting a push start look no further, I will try to encourage and inspire any and all who need help along the way!

Yours Truly,
Lomax
